Bernadette just returned from a relaxing and fun-filled family trip to the Big Island, Hawaii. Kiddieup Travel caught up with her to find out where she went, what she did and any advice for heading to the islands with kids.

KU Where did you stay?
BV We rented a large house with two other families through VRBO in the Kailua-Kona area.

KU What was the highlight of the trip?
BV Swimming in the volcano tubes. I asked the kids and it was a unanimous favorite. Second up was when they swam with sea turtles in the ocean.

KU How was traveling and staying with two other families?
BV It was really, really great. The kids all played together and our house had so much space they could get out and have fun. I love to cook so I did a lot of the cooking, and then others who like to clean would help clean. It was so wonderful to cook and then just practically walk out of the kitchen!

KU Any tips for parents heading to the islands with their families?
BV I was worried that William (age 5) was going to be too nervous to go snorkeling. But we bought all the kids their own snorkel set, so having his own gear made him not nervous at all. He was really excited and loved having his own gear. We bought ours at home and packed it, but it’s so much less expensive to buy it on the island.
