Today’s #WednesdayWanderlust takes us to the Lorraine region of France, which is home to one of the world’s largest hot air balloon festivals. (Why France? Well, today is the birthday of Louis Lumiere. And my wonderful husband, Marc. Happy birthday, honey!!!.) Back to the ballooning: Every other year ballooning enthusiasts gather near the town of Metz to fly these amazing, colorful creations at the Lorraine Mondial Air Balloon festival. Organized by Phillipe Buron Pilâtre, a descendant of one of the first people to fly a hot air balloon, last year the festival celebrated the 230th anniversary of the balloon’s history first flight. The next festival is scheduled for 2014, so start booking now.
