All you have to do is check into this renovated motor lodge in Kennebunkport, they’ll take care of the rest.
Webster defines adventure as “an exciting or unusual experience.” For the average parent then, a day’s worth of vacation activities that don’t require hours of planning, prep and packing certainly qualify. There’s certainly the kids club option, or the all-inclusive route, but for those unwilling to invest the time or money the alternative is often a getaway filled with intense schlepping. Lodge on the Cove however, offers a happy medium of DIY hanging out with family-friendly concierge-like extras. Checking in to this mid-sized hotel in Kennebunkport is like an idealized trip to the grandparents house. If said grandparents had mod meets classic taste in interior design, a heated pool and hosted regular cocktail/mocktail parties in the evenings, family yoga and water aerobics most mornings.
Overlooking the cove and within driving or shuttle distance to Kennebunk Beach, Lodge on the Cove seems to have been created with the needs of families in mind. Craving a relaxing day enjoying the sand and surf? They’ll set you up with chairs, towels and parking permits. Available room add-ons—like the “Junk Food Junkie” enhancement: Choose two DVDs from their library and a bucket of junk food for an easy movie night in ($35)—are supremely manageable and a treat for the entire family, not a hassle for mom for the sake of entertaining the kids. Package deals are also built around fun that’s not too ambitious. A regional favorite is the Lodge’s “Pick Your Own Berries” package that includes two nights stay, berry picking supplies and map, complimentary cleaning and a bowl of ice cream to enjoy alongside the fruits of your berry-picking labors. Add to it interiors with tons of character but without a ton of breakables. The only downside is that you can only check in, not move in.
