There’s tons of little festivals and activities hosted in the area. Start with this schedule of events. Then, click here for a list of family-fun activities that range from GPS-enabled geocaching to kid friendly hikes. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway ride is an event you won’t want to miss.
WHERE TO STAY
UNICOI STATE PARK
Budget to Mid-Priced $-$$
Nestled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest (extra points if you can spell it, kids), it’s a quiet retreat after a day of sight-seeing. Choose from the Lodge or the many cottages scattered across the countryside. There’s lots of room for kids to roam and unlike many cabins, many of these do still offer cable tv. Sometimes,
they I just need it.
SERENITY IN THE MOUNTAINS LUXURY SUITES
Blue Ridge, GA
Budget to Mid-Priced $-$$$
The suites are very well-appointed and best of all for families, spacious. Visitors complain of the not-so-picturesque highway view, but once you’re inside the clean, modern and comfortable rooms, you forget the outside world altogether. Plus, the owners claim the lack of view is what helps make up for the reasonable rates. (We’re on board!) The on-site spa gets raves, so you may want to book ahead. A perfect base for exploring the area’s fall splendor, or really, for any time of year.
