Come see it all, at Si Como No

She knows what’s up—vacationing at Si Como No!
ALERT AXL ROSE, WE’VE FOUND AN ECO-PARADISE CITY…OR RESORT…WHATEVER, YOU GET THE POINT)
I doubt you’ll actually find the swaggering Guns and Roses frontman at this amazing eco-conscious Costa Rican resort. Unless he’s traded in babes and booze for acres of wildlife refuge at his feet, butterfly botanical gardens and family-friendly lodging, including a special kids pool with waterslide. Well, there is a swim-up bar, so you never know…I’m generally pretty cynical in tone, but it’s all just a little tasty, toasty crust topping my soft, warm heart. And simmering in that heart is my love for places like Si Como No, an environmentally-responsible resort in Costa Rica. In fact, Costa Rica is one of the ‘greenest’ nations in the world, a distinction they’re working hard to uphold by keeping their carbon footprint small and in the meantime, creating a place where you can show your kids how easy and important it is to tread lightly on Mother Earth and have a wonderfully relaxing vacation. (“Yes, Mommy’s going to the spa to get an all natural salt scrub. It makes mommy and mommy Earth happy!”)

the old me says, ‘beautiful’, the new mom says, ‘that deck isn’t childproofed!’
I wonder which one is going to end up with monkey poo in their mouth?
LOCATION
• Next to Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica, a 3 hour drive from the San Jose International Airport, or a 20 minute flight from the airport.
PLAYING
• With the beach on one side and a 30 acre private wildlife refuge on the other, where do I begin to start to describe what there is to do at Si Como No. But a few not-to-be-missed highlights are The Butterfly Botanical Gardens, The Amphibian Aquatic Garden and Reptile Exhibit.
• Every night the private, air-conditioned, Si Como No movie theater hosts a movie. It’s kind of like M*A*S*H. Except without HotLips or a war.
• The kids can enjoy mocktails at their very own swim-up smoothie-bar.
• The family swimming pool with water slide means you don’t have to worry about little Johnny asking, “Dad, why does she have a string in her butt?”.
• There’s also an on-site spa. ‘Cause you can never be too relaxed.
EATING
• Two of the area’s best restaurants are located on the Si Como No grounds.
SLEEPING
• Cribs are available, just ask.
• If you’re traveling with little ones, request a standard room, without a balcony or terrace. They’re not kid-proofed. (see photo, above).
TIPS
•‘ The Green Children Live’ You Tube video on the site highlights some pretty great shots of the area. However, you may want to watch it with the sound off. Sorry, they’re obviously talented kids but the material is well, less than bearable.
• Si Como No will plant a tree for every person who books a tour/excursion online.
• Oh, there’s NO TV in the rooms, so you may want to pack the portable DVD. Unless you’re one of those insane people who torture yourselves and don’t let your kids watch tv. If you are, you have no idea blissful minutes of rest from your children’s constant demands that you’re missing.
Okay, even I can’t find anything snarky to say about this picture. This place just looks so beautiful!
